About MetronomeHQ

MetronomeHQ exists because of a small, infuriating problem: most online metronomes wobble. Not by much โ€” a few milliseconds here and there โ€” but a practice tool whose whole job is being exactly on time should be exactly on time.

How it stays exact

The usual way to build a web metronome is to ask the browser to call a function every beat, and play a sound in it. Browser timers make no promises: they run late when the page is busy, they are throttled in background tabs, and every late click makes the next one later still, because the schedule is measured from whenever the last click actually happened.

MetronomeHQ instead uses the lookahead scheduling pattern from professional audio software. A lightweight timer wakes every 25 milliseconds and asks one question: which clicks fall due in the next 0.1 seconds? Those clicks are placed on the Web Audio clock at times computed by pure addition โ€” each beat is the previous beat plus exactly 60 รท BPM seconds. At 120 BPM the schedule is 0, 500, 1000, 1500 ms, forever, no matter what the page is doing. The timer can jitter all it wants; the clicks cannot, because they were already placed.

What is here

The metronome itself (30โ€“300 BPM, signatures from 2/4 to 12/8 plus custom bar lengths, eighth/triplet/sixteenth subdivisions, an accented downbeat, tap tempo, and settings remembered locally). A tap tempo tool for measuring songs. A BPM to milliseconds converter for delay times and loop lengths. A practice trainer that raises the tempo in earned steps. And reference pages on tempo markings, genre tempos, time signatures and practice method โ€” all original, all written for this site.

What it is not

It is not an app, an account or a subscription in disguise. There is nothing to install and nothing is uploaded: the click is synthesised in your tab and your settings never leave your browser. A Pro tier is previewed in the footer of each page โ€” setlists and practice history are planned โ€” but nothing is on sale and no payment is taken.

MetronomeHQ is part of a small family of free browser tools; the footer links to its siblings, from image compression to a fertile-window calculator, each built on the same principle: the tool runs on your device, and the page works the moment it loads.

MetronomeHQ Pro โ€” $9/mo, coming soon. Saved setlists that switch tempo song by song, practice history and a speed trainer that follows your plan. Preview only โ€” not on sale yet, no payment is taken.
